Antonio Vivaldi

Antonio Vivaldi was a composer in Baroque era.

Vivaldi was born in Italy in 1678. His father taught him how to play the violin. Vivaldi was trained as a priest from a young age and he earned the nickname " The Red Priest" because of his red hair. Vivaldi became a successful violin teacher at an orphanage for girls where he also composed songs for the orphans to perform. Slowly, Vivaldi's fame grew and he became very popular. He was asked to write many compositions and to travel to different parts of Europe. He wrote many different kinds of music: sacred vocal music, operas, concertos, and sonatas. He is famous for his influence on the concerto, a form of music with three movements featuring a soloist and orchestra. Unfortunately, Vivaldi's music went out of fashion and when he died his critics thought his music dull. â€‹By the end of his life he had written 500 concertos and 40 operas. His most famous concerto is called "The Four Seasons". Parts of the music were meant to sound like turtledoves, goldfinches, flashes of lightning, a barking dog, fierce winds and chattering teeth. For some, this is Vivaldi's most beautiful work.
