Frederic Chopin

Frederic Chopin was a composer in the Romantic Period.

Chopin was born in Poland in 1810. Like many famous composers, he started playing the piano at age 4 and quickly became a prodigy. He gave his first concert at age 8 and became more advanced than his teachers! When he was 17 he wrote a variation on a song by Mozart which received an excellent review in a very prestigious music magazine of the time. The writer, a composer himself named Robert Schumann wrote, "Hats off, gentlemen! A genius!". Chopin moved to Paris where he quickly became a celebrity and made friends with the Paris intellectuals of the time. Chopin composed exclusively music for the piano and his fame is partly because of his great influence on pianists during his lifetime and after. His music is very passionate and takes listeners through a strong emotional journey. Unfortunately, Chopin battled with tuberculosis and eventually died from it in 1849.
